After the concert we retired to a nearby lounge with a group of about 15 people. As we approached a comfortable corner there was a solitary young guy sitting alone in the middle of a comfortable couch writing in a journal. Apparently he had no intention to move seats when we approached and became absorbed by our group. As we shared beers and gazpacho soup, Lail became increasingly curious about the stranger in our midst. Eventually we took bets on what he was doing and she went over to talk with him. It turned out he was a 21-year-old Swiss student on summer holidays in Berlin, and he’d apparently been doodling in a sketchbook, not writing the next great novel.
